The thing which most appeals to me about blogging is the fact it is quick.

You don’t have to spend hours writing, and the language in blogs tends to be natural, informal and friendly. Many posts are only 200 - 300 words in total, which for the beginner may seem a lot, but as they are usually written in very conversational tones it’s actually easy to achieve.

Just think about holding a normal conversation with someone and count the words you use in actual speech.   For many, it’s not a question of not having enough to write, but rather having too much.

There are two different types of entries you can make.  These are posts and pages.  The difference between the two is that a page is a permanent fixture, like an About, or Contact page, whilst a post is a short article or piece of information which is automatically archived by date. The most recent post will be displayed and the others stored in reverse chronological order.

It’s all clever stuff.

Another thing, which is clever, is that the posts can be stored in categories.  This makes it easy for people to find the information they seek.  For example, if your blog was about golf  (I know - everyone talks about golf!), you could have categories for:

  • golf tips
  • golf clubs
  • golf courses
  • golf bags
  • golf trolleys
  • golf holidays
  • golf memorabelia

etc., etc., etc., ……………………….

When you consider how inexpensive a blog can be, actually cost free in some instances, and the ease with which a blog can be updated, it’s no wonder the blogging fraternity is increasing by the second.

This is especially relevant as there are many ways to easily make a lot of money from blogs if only you know how.  Even just leaving a comment on someone else’s blog can prove beneficial.

Yes, blogging is an easy way for anyone to have a voice online.  It requires no special technical knowledge and is incredibly flexible.  Whether you are seeking a highly effective business tool or merely want to chat, blogs are a cheap and easy method to use, and for some people, blogging has become their sole source of income.
